The genesis of Calgarysoul was fuelled by a need for community. While many have ruminated on the loss of one, Calgarysoul set out to reengage and foster one. As with many small communal ideas, the creation of this simple vision is a shared one and Calgarysoul is not unique in this area.
What had been a pot stewing with ideas was brought to boil by four very different individuals, Jeff Humphreys, DJ Rice, Sideshow Sid and Rob Faust. Each had tabled their dissatisfaction with a loss of community and identity in many different ways. All four sought a common meeting place to address concerns and more importantly, rise above them. It was hoped that by developing a meeting place that spoke, through music, to the many who've been disenfranchised by a scene gone corporate that we could rebuild a communal ethos. After much debate and dialogue the four set the common ground that has become Calgarysoul. The template, both the spiritual and logistical modus operandi of this site was hammered out over many months of deliberation and endless hours of dialogue. Both the dialogue and deliberation culminated in this tiny oasis amid a local desert of sameness. It is the four aforementioned people who gave birth to this site and it is these four that Calgarysoul proudly calls it's residents…
